Multiple POV

Switching viewpoints today.  I wasn’t thinking I would end up writing from another POV in this book, but today it turned out that way. Then while I was writing today, I had the idea pop into my head that I may end up crisscrossing  many different POV’s from here on out. The ones in the story, but still, I’ve been fairly consistent with not doing that. I do a couple POV’s but not a  lot. It’d be new for me period. I usually don’t follow a strict rule with how many scenes a person can hold and whatnot. If my editor thinks one person hasn’t been shown enough, she may mention it and I’ll inject some more, but overall, I write as the people (and scenes) come to me, as the story develops. For me, that’s my writing style  now . I may change that later on, but for now I can safely say it’s my style. I think of George R.R. Martin when I consider so many different POV’s. My thoughts are mixed on all the ones he uses so I try to be conscious of that and ensure that at the end of the day, it d

Good enough

So today I’ll be fixing the menu and the pages on this site. In case you’ve tried to use one of those things in the past two days and got an error. It will be fixed today. Didn’t get as many words as I would have liked , but it’s good enough. I was busy going back and forth on  http://scifiideas.com  (love the site!). I wanted to find ideas for planets and names because as I was writing, a lot of what I wrote depended on the planet I was describing. Since I had new thoughts in mind, I couldn’t get out of it simply by doing a short {note – research} in my writing. Well, I could’ve but because a lot of the current story information was based on the specifics of said specific planet, I needed at least a few details to keep me going. Otherwise when I came back to that place in editing, there would be so few details I would find myself lost as to what I was doing, and the actual  story would be missing. So I took the stance of risking word count to make sure I knew  enough about a new

My hosting plan is up this week and rather than renew, I’m going to the simplified wp.com (MY DOMAIN will remain the same – kimberlysueiverson.com) for a year or two so I can – hopefully – not deal with too much of that extra bidness I’ve been dealing with right now. Everything has remained on my site for wordpress.com where I was at before I switched to my own hosting so I’m not having to change too much. BUT I wanted to let you know so that if you follow this blog by email (this has nothing to do with the newsletter) or the “follow” option through wordpress, come back here on Friday, or next week, and refollow to be safe. Things may not switch. More than I figured

I’m surprised  I got as many numbers as I did today. I was sluggish to start and then it just didn’t feel like I’d been writing long. Always surprising to look back and go . . . oh! I got a bunch, haha. Mostly details today, not as much story. Having to introduce the place where the majority of this book will take place.     Under Empty Stars Word count I started the day with:  11,495 Word count I ended the day with: 12,705 Total for the day: 1,210 words   Originally posted on Kim Iverson's Website - http://ift.tt/29v8oVz

Story isa flying

Gosh I love this story.  It’s at the point where I have to force myself to stop writing when time is up. I am starting to have a feeling this series may merge into another book. I thought this book was the last, but I may have one more in it. We’ll see. I feel like this one is going to be based on the characters Ellie, Jack, Jeremiah, and Stone. Ancient Scars  was based off of Ellie and Claude with the other men, but more so Ellie and her father’s dynamic. If I don’t solve all the answers in this book then I may need one more to solve the Ellie and Claude storyline.   Under Empty Stars Word count I started the day with:  9,869 Word count I ended the day with: 11,495 Total for the day: 1,626 words   Originally posted on Kim Iverson's Website - http://ift.tt/29m4qLI

How would I describe the series?

Okay, updated my books page to include the information for  Under Empty Stars   as well as the information for when  Ancient Scars  is releasing, and the other novels. Still have to make a cover for the short story I finished as well as a page, and finish typing up the story – tentative title for that one is Bittersweet Reality . Also the other shorts I have waiting.  The River   and the  Into the Midst   compilation. Also updated my sidebar for the blog finally. Been the same format for a while so it needed one. (Sidenote: arch of my right foot is itching like crazy so I’m scooching around in the chair trying to itch it through my boot – not easy! haha) I was thinking about something just a bit ago too. What is the best way to describe The Guardian of Life series for those who haven’t seen me talking about it? The best way to describe The Guardian of Life  series is a bit Mother Earth meets Mad Max meets Dune meets Total Recall meets dare I have the audacity to put it in the sam

Lots done

In my newsletter I shared  the cover for  Under Empty Stars.  I’ll add it to this post on Monday, or tomorrow if I keep writing during the weekend. I sorta want to. Another great day for words. Super happy about that. I received  Daughter of the Red Planet   and released it for sale via CreateSpace . It’ll take a week for the stores like Amazon and Barnes and Noble to feature it though. Just over halfway done with the read through of Ancient Scars before I send it off to Jeanie for her first thoughts. Wiped out so now I gots yard work to deal with. And so we begin.

Began writing  Under Empty Stars  yesterday.  Since I’m over a chapter in I can get the page done for it. I’ll wait to share it until next week because my newsletter people will get first look at the cover. Advantage of it. I plan to share exclusive content from the making of the story too, just for my subscribers. I’m waiting until a couple of the books have released before I start. So far the story is tumbling out of me. It’s just a matter of slowing my thoughts down enough so I can type out the words that are coming. This particular book is really exciting because there is going to be such a change in the storyline, and all the characters are taking on a new life. Story bits are coming out in the entire universe that I hadn’t had a clue about when I was writing the first two books. Can’t wait to see if this really is the last book or if it’s about the two main characters in my head. Hope of the Future was an introductory to this new world we inhabit, the future, what came of the

Finished Anora this morning

Very pleased that I finished Anora . Although it was left open for a series, I don’t think it will be one. I’m going to have to fix everything and remove the series name. I’ll keep the cover and the series name just in case, but I have no plans to expand. The dogs were acting up while I was trying to write — typical, eh? — and finish so I purposely pushed past the 11 o’clock hour. I only had a little bit more to go and really did want to try to finish the end. Normally I rush the end, and then the details will just get a note { note: big end } in the sentences as I just did there. But this time I decided to hold my ground with my creative brain and not rush the process. I took my time, went until just about 11:30 with the writing, then finished the book at  81,970  words.   Over the 80K I thought I’d end at. That’ll go up in editing. Today, I started the read through for  Ancient Scars . After this I will send it to Jeanie for the first check on story issues, plot, etc. Then I can

Heart facts

Since a scene in  Ancient Scars   deals with how much blood a heart can produce with each beat, I had to search that out. Turns out the answer is that it can produce up to 5 liters of blood per beat. Quite a bunch there. How To Think Sideways course is open

If you’re looking for a great writing course to take, Holly Lisle has opened up registration again for her HTTS course. I took this course and learned a lot of things. I willllll say straight out that like most writing courses, you may or may not get everything you’re looking for out of it. This may or may not be the course for you. There are a lot of lessons, but I gained quite a bit of new knowledge. If you’re really only just beginning to write, this would be an even better course for you to take because you’ll go from the very beginning of generating ideas all the way through publishing. But even if you’ve been writing for a while, this course may have a lot of new information to learn. If you’ve seen my tagline “Ready for a heart-pounding life-changing experience to challenge your mind & the way you see things?” this is where I learned it from. And as a writer, I try to learn new things constantly so if you can afford it, why not take it anyway? Using this link will earn me

How to write Horror

For a long time I’ve been struggling with this topic. My short stories generally go in that direction whether I plan it or not, but it was attempting to turn them into novels that made me scratch my head. Mostly because I didn’t really understand what made my shorts such good horror stories. So as we all do, I went online and tried to find the information. Fat good that did me. The information I found was generally the same thing:   write what scares you, inject fear into the page.  Same ol’, same ol’. It wasn’t until I beta read for a friend of mine that it hit me. The next morning it was a slap in the face moment. I’m not sure really what the trigger was. I was making my coffee, getting ready to eat meh oatmeal, and boom. Out of nowhere, I realized it: he took my by the hand, led me into his cozy little kitchen, then like a magician triggered that  oh god, no response inside. I won’t give away his story, but I’ll use Trust Your Instincts   for explanation purposes since it featur

Story creation – characters

Stone, Stone, Stone. How you do fascinate me. As I edit DAUGHTER OF THE RED PLANET (play with story notes now that the editor has the book) and ANCIENT SCARS, I discover a whole new plot line with one particular character. I have a load of scenes percolating for when I write the third in the series (now technically 4th, I suppose) book, UNDER EMPTY STARS. During this whole time, one character has been a standout individual who in fact says VERY little through the actual books. In DAUGHTER OF THE RED PLANET he really doesn’t say much at all, he’s just therrrrreee. At this moment I am piddling with the story notes yet again because Stone arrives in my thoughts. The amount of dimension this character has is incredible. And by piddling with story notes, what I’m doing is writing his history in a way. I don’t outline the story, I don’t work out his details when I’m writing, I just write a small note on what he’s told/shown me, then on the weekends, I expand it. Or as Chuck Palahniuk states

Words

Halfway through my Dark Illusions: The Beginning paperback. Been making some lovely connections in Anora . Starting in on paperbacks

Going go be working on my Dark Illusions  paperbacks today. I need to get those back into print as soon as I can. About to get started on that.   Word count I started the day with: 45,745 Word count I ended the day with:  47,509 Total for the day: 1764 words   Originally posted on Kim Iverson's Website - http://ift.tt/1WVeoZu

Hit my goal with room to spare.

Totally hit my goal.  That’s without any editing shortcuts either. I did a thorough edit. I sent Daughter of the Red Planet to Creech Enterprises with 45 minutes to spare. I’m exhausted so this will be a quick note mostly. I got my newsletter out, and will be taking the weekend off. Also had a great day of writing with Anora so I had a lot of works. I’m halfway through the book now and I started April 6th or so? Super happy. It’s fortunate that I bumped up my editing goal too. That gives me the ability to have an extra two days off to give my mind and eyes a break. I’m exhausted from other things going on too so it’ll be good for me. I will still be doing some sort of work. Outlining histories of Dark Moon Dynasty Universe, and The Guardian of Life series. Those just don’t require being on the computer for long periods. Progress – and reached my goal!

Today I didn’t get as many words  as I would’ve liked. I’m still happy – anything is something! – about it though. I retraced my steps, tried to work out a few things, and then ended up deleting paragraphs so I could just rewrite them instead of trying to work them out. Made it easier, but it did set me back on words. That’s fine. Not every day is all peachy. On  Daughter of the Red Planet  I am going through my final read through. I have to reach page 158 today – did it! – and then 237 tomorrow, and finally finish so I can get it out of my hands by Friday. I know I said I’d like it done by the end of the month, but those extra few days it would give me by finishing early, is something I’d like. Trust me, they won’t go to waste. It just helps in case Jeanie has something come up where she takes longer, or there is something large that I have to fix when she sends it back. And if the editing is okay, then that means I have a few extra days of getting more of the back log done. Let’s j

Gonna make it quick

Making good progress  with the novel. Can’t help but think it’s because my fingers were starting to hurt from the other keyboard. I don’t have gigantic hands so for me trying to type on the bigger keyboards, it stresses my fingers. I’m getting an adapter for the older keyboard to use it. The keys aren’t as high, and the buttons don’t have to get pressed so hard. I do have a decent one I bought (I mentioned it before) for this computer, but I am going to try the other keyboard for a bit to see the difference since this Logitech keyboard places the keys so far apart that even though it’s easy to press the buttons, it hurts to stretch my fingers out. Need easy stuff! The adapter from Amazon only cost a couple bucks, which is helpful. Since I’m past when I usually quit working at the computer, I gotta wrap this up. Just under what I like, but I’ll take it

Always a bit sluggish  on a Monday. I was reading the last part I wrote last Friday, and I couldn’t grasp where to go. Then I realized it was because I needed to switch the POV. Another character has been working his way into the scene here and there (he’d actually been in the very first part of the novel, just not physically). Story picked up pace after that. I only had just over 30 minutes to write anyway though so I didn’t get  quite  as many words as I may have wanted. Just under my 1000 words I like to get every day. Not too concerned. I’m really interested in noting that I’m almost halfway to the end of the book. I looked at when I started to write this one. It was April 1, 2016. Almost halfway and two months of near steady writing. Had I written on the weekends, every weekend, I’d imagine I may have been farther at this point. And not had some slow days, which I’ve had. Word count I started the day with: 38,046 Word count I ended the day with:  39,030 Total for the day: 9

Starting to get answers

We’re finally getting answers.  And as typical, the way the answers are being given in the story, isn’t the way I had it planned in my head. Or not planned, but maybe I should say, how I expected it to go. I expected the information to come in a much different way, different person as well. Well, surprise surprise, the story didn’t go the way it was supposed to go. Random thought that crosses the mind: gotta do my newsletter today, lol. So I’ll cut this a bit shorter than I wanted to. Not much to discuss anyway. I have a lot of things I have to do today. Outside and inside. Hoping I hit my ten pages of edits today, but if I don’t, since I got 15 yesterday, I know I’ll be okay. Word count I started the day with: 36,783 Word count I ended the day with:  38,046 Total for the day: 1263 words   Originally posted on Kim Iverson's Website - http://ift.tt/1XFxfXJ

Tired, but that’s a good thing

Good numbers today. I was able to start on time (almost) so that helped me loads. I got a good advancement in my  Daughter of the Red Planet  editing too. I have to edit at least ten pages every day to hit my end of the month goal. I have one month of give in that time in case something happens with Jeanie and sets her editing back, or in my life and sets my editing back. Otherwise I won’t hit my August publication date. So that’s why I’ve given myself until the end of this month to finish up. It sounds so easy: 10 pages. It’s really hard when I only have a few hours to edit and get interrupted a lot. I’m usually tired by the time I edit so that’s a help. Not complaining, only pointing out what it’s like. I love it. I love what I do, and making the book go from meh to this is good!  And now to take the dogs out and try to get yard work done  before the rain comes back. Then make dinner. :D Word count I started the day with: 35,499 Word count I ended the day with:  36,783 Total

The plot thickens

Had some very interesting  ideas hit me for the Guardian of Life series last night. I’m excited to implement it. I swear I’d seen something similar in a movie, but can’t find anything so maybe it was an art drawing. The closest I found to my idea was the “dinobots” in the latest Transformers movie. Love those movies. Either way, my idea will be different from those. Even if I can’t find out if my idea was used somewhere, it’ll be unique to my story for how it comes about. We’ll just say it’s like a steam punk dragon. Not much in Anora today. I started late and didn’t have much time to write, but still, happy with those numbers. Word count I started the day with:  34,695 Word count I ended the day with:  35,499 Total for the day: 804 words   Originally posted on Kim Iverson's Website - http://ift.tt/250UFZZ
